Home Cage Temperature and Activity Monitoring
Animal behavior research in mice requires the monitoring of the animal in its home cage setting. This is often done by video and general observation. Video monitoring is great because it allows the researcher to leave the room and observer the animals remotely. However, when the animals are most active at night, or in a group housed setting, video tracking can become very difficult and expensive.
To understand mouse phenotypes, it requires the monitoring of mouse behavior single or group housed over long periods of time without externa stimuli. In addition to movement and position tracking, another data point that can be very useful is temperature.
UID provides an RFID system that allows the real time monitoring of location, movement, and animal temperature in a home cage setting for multiple in a cage. Record in real time the animal’s location and temperature to provide a detailed behavioral analysis of the animal. Does it huddle with the group, spend more time under the feeder, Is the temperature increasing or decreasing? These are all questions that can be answered easily now with the UID Mouse Matrix system in real time even in the dark.
- Infectious disease
- Humane endpoints
- Social interaction and behavior
- Conflict avoidance
- Surgical recover
Using UID’s RFID Mouse Matrix reader and software you can record all details of the individual cage and export the data to excel for analysis.
Mouse Matrix includes:
- Reader Housing – IP67 Rated
- 6 position antenna plate sized for mouse disposable caging
- Software for data recording and exporting to Excel
Simply implant a UID Temperature or standard microchip in the mouse and place the cage on the reader for 24/7 undisturbed monitoring. Can be combined with video monitoring without interference.
Available with 6 or 8 antenna plates – 11.75” x 7.375” x 4” (Box 7.75” x 4.75” x 3”)
